Last year I planted a heap of poppy seeds and since none of them came up I assumed they didn't want to grown in my garden. But this week one single poppy plant sprung up and bloomed with rich orange flowers. I had actually thought it was a weed and had planned to pull it out.
Feels like a good omen as I start this blog. I will throw some things out there in the hope that they all may be fabulous and I will be disappointed when they aren't but then, when I am not looking and even being lazy, something unexpected and orange-poppy-beautiful just may happen down the track.
The easiest cake I know is Nigella's clementine cake and I had a heap of fresh eggs, manadrins and cream for whipping on my bench. The only other ingredients needed are almond meal and sugar (I kid you not) and happily both were in the pantry. I cannot tell you how pleased I was that the dense orange of the cake was the same colour as the poppies I had picked that day.
I have started playing around with the manual settings of my SLR camera and I am trying to go all Local Milk moody but with no firm idea of what I am doing. I've just ordered a copy of Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson which is meant to be THE book to help in these matters. Here's hoping.
